Abyss, the perfect storm.

Ryan werkin' it

The night before I left for Scotland, I dipped down into the deep dark ocean of avant garde in The Dollhouse’s annual and final Glamazon show. It was stunning send off and went by like a monsoon, leaving everyone in it’s wake covered in glitter and hairspray. I’ve shared articles in the past about Glamazon, with its jaw dropping ensembles, funky transformations, and choreographed drama but Glamazon: Abyss being the last installment of the show felt very different.

Glamazon: Abyss

Glamazon: Abyss

Last year there was Glamazon 2.0: Too Much is Never Enough: it was grandeur in a glossy bottle and I was delighted to take part in the avant garde segment of the second show during my first year of living in Phnom Penh.

Stepping into the limelight this year in sky high heels and mass amounts of glimmer comes Glamazon: Abyss. I’m looking forward to being part of the anticipated event once again and had the chance to write up an article for WUPP! to share a bit more about what to look forward to. Throw on some neoprene and get ready to dive in!

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

The team

The team

As the general populous of the well coiffed in Phnom Penh know, The Dollhouse isn’t just a place to get shorn, highlighted, and deep conditioned: it also garners immense attention for their monthly spreads in AsiaLife along with a constant flurry of beauty and fashion editorials for the glossies of the city in addition to a number of stylistic events throughout the year.

Seeing spots.

AM2

Yesterday I excitedly got to watch Scotland and the Forte Cambodia 5s complete in the Phnom Penh World Cup at 3g Mini Stadium. In sweltering 100+ heat and humidity as I stood cheering on the sidelines and felt trickles of sweat river down my thighs and pool into the back of my kneecaps I thought, “Isn’t it supposed to be rainy season?” This was right before I began to get lightheaded, seeing spots and stars dart behind my eyelids, and in a slight daze made my way back home for a couple bottles of water to rehydrate, a soggy workout, and a blowdry at The Dollhouse.

“Black Magic” & Photo Roll 13.

"Black Magic"

I was extraordinarily pleased with this editorial I shot early last month with the energetic and dynamic photographer Jack Malipan and creative and skilled hair stylist Ryan Drewe Taylor from The Dollhouse. Shooting in an oil slicked auto parts garage surrounded by rusted nuts and bolts wasn’t glamorous in any way especially when I saw a cockroach scurry across a pair of the wardrobe shoes.  Balancing in five inch wedges and a dress that barely covered my cake as onlookers gawked wasn’t easy either, but the results were entirely worth it. Who can complain when you’re working with such a great team? I absolutely adore working with these talents and look forward for more to come.

Do blondes have more fun?

transform

Doubt it.

But, I sure did break in my new ‘do this past Friday with a rollicking night at Bouchon‘s 2nd Year Birthday (congrats!) and a wildly embarrassing yet deliriously fun nightcap at Bar.sito (Will- you’re a Ciroc-pouring genius devil). Several people thought it was a wig, a few didn’t recognize me, and there was a lot of cheeky “did you change you hair?” Aye, hadn’t heard that one yet!

KITTENS, INSPIRED BY KITTENS.

www.montanarakz.tumblr.com_HR_-22

I’ve been wanting to incorporate my favorite (cats!) into a photo shoot for some time now. While they’ve made guest appearances in other shoots like one I did with Jeremie Montessuis of Film Noir Studio for WUPP, this was the first with two little guys.

Thanks Philippa for letting me borrow Simba and Atticus for the evening and props to Montana Rakz of RAKZ Photography Studio as the guru behind the camera.

Ryan Drewe Taylor of The Dollhouse Salon mastered my hair and was a perfect cat wrangler in between shots.
