Casanova.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

Watching someone you love and respect work on something passionately with focus, drive, and serious intent makes you want them to achieve the success they’re reaching for that much more. In this case it’s been one of my best friends, partner in crime, and influencerĀ Nick Casanova.

Not en vogue: human props.

sportsillustrated_swimsuit2013_01

I understand the thrill of traveling, particularly for a photoshoot. Even moreso if that photoshoot is somewhere exotic, new, and unlike anywhere you’ve ever been. When you have a strong bond with the photographer- which I definitely appreciateĀ because many of my best friends are photographers- Ā it makes everything even more fun: the locations, the wardrobe, the styling, the props!

But the props…the props I’m noticing more and more in fashion are actual humans. Not like “here we’re posing together for this campaign, lookbook, or magazine” but “let’s use these kids or this witheredĀ man in the shot because they add such local flavor!”

Blegh.

Model behavior.

As I edged awkwardly out of my preteens with overly dry skin, lank hair, and standing about 4 foot 8, I had a strong desire to become a model-cum-actress after spending hours upon hours of flipping through glossies. I begged my mom time after time to enroll me into modeling schools, take me to LA for auditions, and avidly readĀ seventeen like it held the truth to the universe. Luckily she had the wits about her to say “no” to the thousands of dollars it would cost to enroll me in what was likely a farce of a class, see that I wouldn’t be shooting up the elevenĀ inches it would take to reach international modeling standards, and that like most things I had taken interest in- ballet, horseback riding, the viola- my passion to be a supermodel would peter out in due time.

KITTENS, INSPIRED BY KITTENS.

www.montanarakz.tumblr.com_HR_-22

I’ve been wanting to incorporate my favorite (cats!) into a photo shoot for some time now. While they’ve made guest appearances in other shoots like one I did with Jeremie Montessuis of Film Noir Studio for WUPP, this was the first with two little guys.

Thanks Philippa for letting me borrow Simba and Atticus for the evening and props to Montana Rakz of RAKZ Photography Studio as the guru behind the camera.

Ryan Drewe Taylor of The Dollhouse Salon mastered my hair and was a perfect cat wrangler in between shots.

WUPP.

WUPP July

When I first jetted into Phnom Penh, I remember seeing a little magazine called ‘Whats Up Phnom Penh’, better known as WUPP, with it’s hot pink letters, black background, and stark cover photo all over the place.

I had the chance to meet with Antony, one member of the WUPP team, when I was working at .BEYOND (interiors) and eventually began writing for them. On their third month in publication- I was on board.

Now that we (WUPP and I) have been in Cambodia for almost a year or longer, I’ve got a special place in my heart for the teensy magazine, doing big work covering a lot of businesses and staying as up to date as possible with all things happening on the PP scene.

Here’s a little shot from a photo shoot I did with the talented Mr. Montana Rakz last night.

What a treat to work with Montana in the studio for the first time!

Big thanks to Ryan Drewe Taylor from The Dollhouse for my big hair and acting as patient kitty holder.

Thank you Philippa for the wonderful Atticus & Simba and working with our hectic schedules.
