This Saturday the 25th of January marked a special day for the Scots in my life, Phnom Penh, and across the globe: Burns Day.

To celebrate this honored date, Little Kitchen– Cooking for Change partnered up with a few good lads to host a memorable evening in honor of Robert Burns for the first time in the Charming City. Little Kitchen provides a monthly culinary event that brings people together who share a love for food, interaction, and education while supporting social and humanitarian activities in the local Cambodian community. Held at Meta House, each event is devoted to a particular country or region’s cuisine along with presentations and on some occasions, performances.

Meowloween.

Tomorrow the ghosts, spooks, and trickery come out for Halloween in Cambodia.

Since roughly mid October my Facebook, Instagram, and tumblr have been overwrought with photos of “sexy Cookie Monster”, plenty of hot skeletons, “The Joker” (really? that’s still en mode?), the cats of the year (Grumpy, Nyan, et al) and Wes Anderson characters along with a spattering of stories on news pages about celebrities or this dolt (who- GREAT, JUST GREAT– is apparently coming to Cambodia soon) who think black face is a delightful and jaunty costume, perfect for a 21st century birthday soiree.

I want to give warm congratulations to Dan and Oun Beck for the addition of baby Rosie to their family unit. We visited the maternity care ward this past weekend and it was simply touching. She’s one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen, she managed to avoid the…how do I say this…squished alien look that we all know babies sometimes have when they’re first born but we love them anyway.
