As my mom and I walked outside her house across craggy little Washington rocks along the beach in Gig Harbor, I scanned the vast landscape of a million eco systems with expert eyes: eyes that have taken in creatures and the skeletons of creatures year after year, eyes that hone in on a special little gift from the ocean or a fumbling, tumbling miniature crab trying to make its way back under a comforting rock.

Creeps.

Through a constant stream of social media, a never ending source of news constantly being thrown at you from the world wide web, and behind-the-screen interactions with people you’ve both encountered face to face or through the vast pages of the internet- it’s become more and more shockingly obvious that there are some seriously misguided people (on my side, generally older men) and basically disgusting creeps in this world.

At the AWC luncheon yesterday at Terrazza, I got to sit next to the finest lady at the table: my mom. Over Waldorf salads and pappardelle, we laughed about how someone she met that week was baffled that I could be her daughter; not because of my cocktail of an Asian heritage…but because I’m blonde! Obviously not natural, friends.
